Short Play?

The play was surprisingly short, but effective, a very short read that still brought the emotion of the war.

Stanhope's reluctance

Stanhope seems quite reluctant to let Raleigh dash on the raid, which shows that although Stanhope is struggling to keep his sanity, he obviously still cares for Raleigh, and is quite possibly making himself stay to keep his fiance's brother safe.

Nervous Stanhope

I think Stanhope is very nervous of what his fiance thinks about him, as he did not want Raleigh to send any letters home to her (Raleigh's sister). He seems to get very concerned about it.

Raleigh on the front line

I think that Raleigh handled the front line very well, certainly better than others like Hibbert. It shows what too much time there can do to a fully grown man (like Hibbert).

Osbourne's death

Osbourne's death came as quite a sudden shock to me, as when i read of it it seemed like quite a small thing, even though Osbourne seemed to be an uncle figure to many of the soldiers.

Cowardly Hibbert

I felt pity for Hibbert when he tried to fake an injury to get off the front line before the final attack, and it shows how terrified he was to lose his life. This is probably many others' attitudes towards warfare but it's interesting to read of someone having a full breakdown over it.

Small Set?

Upon reading the scene description for the set before the play truly begins, I realised how small the set is for the whole play, and from the play I expected it to be far bigger, as they must have used the space very efficiently.
